NOV 23 – The Gospels

Gathering in:

8:50-9:00am

Our Father puzzles

Group:

Gospels

Mass response:

The Lord be with you. All: And with your Spirit.
Deacon (or Priest): A reading from the Holy Gospel according to... [Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John]
All: Glory to you, Lord!
As we say this, we bless ourselves three times by making a small cross on our foreheads, on our lips and on our heart. By doing this, we are acknowledging that Christ is with us in our thoughts, in the words we speak, and in our hearts.
After the Gospel Proclamation:
Deacon (or Priest): The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

Bible Verse:

Matthew 1: 1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Mark 1: 1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Luke 1: Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

John 1: 1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Prayer:

Our Father

Main Points:

  1. Gospel usually designates a written record of Christ's words and deeds.

  2. Matthew, Mark, Luke & John

  3. It is very likely derived from the Anglo-Saxon  à Gospel = god (good) + spell (to tell)
